As the nation watched on Sunday, July 1, five top golfers provided a dramatic finish to the 34th U.S. Senior Open hosted by the five-star, five-diamond Broadmoor Hotel and Resort.  Ultimately USGA’s David Toms prevailed, walking away just a shot ahead of Miguel Angel Jimenez, Tim Petrovic and Jerry Kelly in an all-day contest.

This was the eighth USGA event hosted by The Broadmoor.  Attendance topped 134,000 – with 3,000 volunteers from 49 states (including many Broadmoor area residents and Golf Club members).  The U.S. Senior Open is one of the five major championships in senior golf.

Gorgeous city and mountain views surround The Broadmoor’s East and West championship courses and were showcased, both in television broadcasts and online. Traffic flow and event coordination went smoothly – and hundreds of Broadmoor families took part in the week’s activities.

One couple was fortunate to spend time off the course with USGA players Bernhard Langer and his wife Vikki.  New York Times best-selling author Stephen Coonts and his wife Debbie – both Broadmoor Golf Club members — first met USGA golfer Bernhard Langer at a wedding rehearsal dinner.  This June, they reunited.  “We really enjoy the Open,” Debbie says.  Stephen agrees, noting that Langer “more than once” mentioned how great it was to be able to play world class courses like those at The Broadmoor.

The good news:  the USGA just announced that the U.S. Senior Open will once again return to The Broadmoor in 2025!
